How to watermark your photo. Dmitry Evtifeev's blog. Types of watermarks

I share my skill on how to make a watermark in Photoshop and tell you what it is for.

I recently got involved in web design. I started accepting orders for small works and realized that you always send the customer to show the sketch only under the protection of a watermark. And remove it after full payment of the order. I also use a watermark on my video slides.

Quite often I make greeting cards in Photoshop for my loved ones. I also protect them with a watermark. It works well for copyright protection in photographs.

The watermark can be colored and transparent. I prefer a transparent watermark. Now we will do it in Photoshop CS6.

Tutorial on how to watermark in Photoshop CS6

1. Create a document in Photoshop, size 400 * 100, give it the name "Watermark".
To do this, click on the "File" inscription and in the "Create" window that appears:

2. Fill in all the required fields in the same way as in the picture below:

Pay attention to the following points:

  • width - 400 (for slides 800-1000) pixels
  • height - 100 (for slides 200) pixels
  • permission 300 (very often Photoshop offers something else on the machine)
  • color mode RGB(important!)
  • background content - Transparent(you may have "White" on the machine)

Only after carefully checking all the points I have written - click "OK".

3. On the left toolbar, find Tool Horizontal Text:

4. We click this tool on our document so that the cursor appears.

5. We need to make the color of the text black. To do this, click on the font color icon on the top panel - I have it still blue (it will appear only after you have the cursor on the document):

6. As soon as you click on the icon, you will see a new window on which we set the black font color by moving the circle to the lowest position on the left and pressing the "OK" button:

As you can see, the color has turned black.

7. You can also customize the size of the font and the name of the font. I have a font "Rubius" and a font size of 14:

The font can be downloaded from my Yandex.Disk https://yadi.sk/d/eD73rTIijNa5z. I often use it, it looks very nice in the inscriptions.

8. We register either our name and surname, or - the name of the site. In the video, I write my first and last name, and now I will write the name of the site (in English):

9. If your inscription does not occupy the entire field, double-click on the "T" icon, the text will be highlighted and you select the font size on the top panel. When you're done, double-click the same text icon again:

This is how you can make a colored watermark. You can change the font color as you wish, you already know how to do this.

How to make a watermark transparent

10. Make the watermark transparent. To do this, add a layer style by clicking the fx layer icon:

11. A window will appear and we select (click) "Embossing":

Another window will open and there we also select "Stamping":

12. Make our watermark transparent:

How to make the watermark transparent:

  • click on the inscription "Layers" (figure 1 in the figure)
  • a window with our inscription will open
  • next to the word "Fill" click on the triangle in the figure number 2)
  • a slider appears
  • move it to the extreme left position until the number "100%" near the word "Fill" changes to the inscription "0%" (figure 3 in the figure)
  • see how the inscription became almost invisible - transparent (figure 4 in the figure)

Now you know how to make a watermark transparent in Photoshop.

The first save for a possible correction of something in Photoshop (what if you need to?):

The second save is working, for using our watermark. It is with him that we will work in the future:

Saving it in this extension will make it transparent (no background) and then it can be superimposed on any image. For example, I open a photo of a product with beads in Photoshop and transfer (just drag) a watermark to it and it beautifully fits into the background of the picture:

This concludes the lesson. Now you know all the nuances of how to make a watermark transparent and opaque in Photoshop.

I have recorded a video for you on how to make a watermark in Photoshop CS6 transparent. See and do yourself.

Until next lessons. I have a question for you: do you need such lessons? Does it benefit you? I want to orientate myself whether to continue them or not. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Best regards, Galina Nagornaya

P.S. If something didn't work out for you - write in the comments, I will help, fix ... The main mistake here is that they did not add styles, but they contain embossing.

First of all, let's figure out what a watermark means. Thinking logically, you can conclude that a watermark is a transparent or translucent image.

An image can be understood as:

  • Picture;
  • Logo;
  • Test inscription;
  • Any character.

Based on these concepts, today we will create our own watermark.

How to make a watermark in Photoshop, ways

Embossed watermark

Now I will show you what kind of watermark you will get using embossing. Follow all the steps described above until the Blending Options window opens.

Only instead of a shadow, open the tab - embossing.

I set the following values:

Basically, I left almost everything by default, replaced only the style, choosing - embossing and removed the global illumination. However, I remind you that you can try to set different values, perhaps the effect will be better. Next, I also removed the transparency of the fill to zero and pressed - ok.

Here is the result I got on a white background:

And so it will be on color:

As you can see, due to the illumination from above, the watermark has become more visible on a dark background, the letters seem to be extruded into the image.

Save watermark

As you can imagine, creating a watermark is only half the battle. Now you need to save it correctly for later use.

Conservation instructions:

  1. Click the layers tab at the top;
  2. Go down to the word - rasterize;
  3. Rasterize text and rasterize layer style;
  4. Save the document in PNG format;
  5. Next, you can save the logo as a brush. Open the tab - editing - define a brush - save;

Now, you can make a pattern for the fill. You have probably seen more than once how repeating watermarks are located diagonally in the picture.

It's pretty easy to make this effect:

  1. Open the tab - image - canvas size;
  2. Set the canvas height equal to the width. That is, your document should become a square;
  3. Go to the menu, at the top - editing - transforming - rotating;
  4. Expand the logo at an angle of 45 degrees, that is, diagonally;
  5. Open again - edit - define pattern - save the logo as a pattern.

Putting a logo on a picture

Now we have three options for applying a logo to the picture.

Hello, friends! Today we will talk with you about how to add watermarks to photos (images) in WordPress... Before starting the lesson, let me first remind why do we need watermarks on the site.

Firstly, water marks- one of the most popular technologies copyright protection on multimedia files. Secondly, watermarking is great for copy protection of images and their further unauthorized use.

I think you will agree that very few people want to display images with someone else's logo or a link to another site on their website 🙂

How to watermark images (photos) in WordPress

We will add watermarks to images using the Easy Watermark plugin.

1. Install and activate the Easy Watermark plugin.

2. After installing and activating the plugin, go to Settings -> Easy Watermark.

3. Settings plugin are divided into 3 tabs: General, Image, Text... Let's talk in more detail about the most important settings for each of these tabs.

General settings

This tab contains general plugin settings. I don't see any point in talking about all the settings of this tab, since the plugin is almost completely Russified. I will only write that I I recommend that you change.

  • Check the box "Backup"... After enabling this function, all originals of uploaded images(without watermarks) will be saved in a separate folder, and if desired, you can restore... A very useful thing.
  • V "Image sizes" I recommend leaving only "Fullsize"... This means that the watermarks will be displayed only on the original image(full size), not on miniatures, etc. Thus, the watermarks will not constantly loom before the eyes, and the large size of the image will be protected.

Image

On this tab you can do watermark from image... To do this, press the button Select / Upload Image and then adjust its location (if necessary).

Important! If you decide to use images for watermark, specify in general settings "Type of watermark" -> "Image".

Text

For adding text watermark go to tab "Text" and enter the desired digital signature text.

On the same tab, specify text alignment(by clicking on the rectangle in the image), offset text(if it does not fit or you want to move it), font, color and size of text... You can also change text slant and his transparency.

As you can see, there is absolutely nothing complicated in creating watermarks. The plugin is easy to use and intuitive.

This plugin also works great with online store WooCommerce. It is very easy to enable watermarks in your store! To do this, on the tab "General", in the settings block "Post types" check the box "Goods".

Important! The WooCommerce plugin must be activated, otherwise such an item will not appear in the settings.

Restoration and mass watermarking

Restore original images (if their preservation is enabled in the settings) as well as massively apply watermarks to all previously uploaded images by going to Media -> Easy Watermark.

"Start"- apply watermarks to all images.

"Restore"- restore original images that will not have a watermark.

Result

Here's a text watermark that came out of the example in this tutorial.

As always, I want to remind you, if you have any questions or difficulties - feel free to write in the comments.

Sometimes it becomes imperative to protect your photos or pictures from theft and distribution on other resources, which are usually passed off by “thieves” as their own.

There is no 100% protection, but watermarking is still better than nothing. At least most people will not want to take such “tagged” photos and will not post them on their websites or social networks.

Let's consider 3 simple ways to apply a watermark on a photo without Photoshop and additional programs. 2 of them will be online.

1. Upload the photo you want to watermark.

2. Click on edit. Choose what you want to apply text or logo. Everything is clear with the text. For example, I'll choose a logo.

3. Load a previously prepared logo, preferably with a transparent background (png format).

4. Adjust the transparency and size of the logo. Move it to the right place, if necessary, you can multiply it.

5. After everything is ready, click the save button and download the finished photo.

Method number 2

In principle, the first method will be quite enough, but there are times when the site does not work and a decent alternative is needed.

A second online service will come to the rescue. He has only one drawback - he is in English.

But the essence is the same everywhere. Downloaded, edited and saved. I chose it because of its clear and user-friendly interface.

1. Click on the button as shown in the picture and upload the photo you want to process.

2. Move the cursor over the photo and click “Edit”.

3. At the bottom of the screen is a toolbar. There you can crop the photo, apply filters or expand the picture.

We are interested in the "Watermark" button. Click on it and choose what you want to overlay, text or logo. As an example, I will first select the text, and then add the logo as well.

4. Write the text you need or just copy the address of your site and paste it into the input field.

A new toolbar for working with text will open in front of you.

  1. Text color (in my example it is black)
  2. The background of the text (in my example, the background is yellow)
  3. Transparency (the lower the value, the less visibility of the watermark in the photo)
  4. Distance between lines
  5. Ability to multiply the watermark throughout the photo
  6. The size
  7. Stroke text with a different color
  8. Distance between letters
  9. Lines
  10. Cancel
  11. Apply
  12. Possibility to put a trademark icon
  13. You can expand the text, underline or make it bold

5. If nothing else is required, then click the “Apply” button and save the picture. I'll add a logo to this photo. Click the “Watermark” button again and select the logo.

6. Upload your picture by clicking “Import logo”.

7. Edit the size, transparency, position of the watermark and click on the “Apply” button. You can save the template or you can skip it.

Then click on the green “Finish” button. Wait a couple of seconds and click the green “Download - download” button in the upper right corner.

Method number 3

If for some reason you are not comfortable making watermarks online, then you can use a simple, lightweight and free program for Windows (suitable for any version).

This program can be used not only for creating watermarks, but also for viewing and editing photos. The program understands all formats and is very easy to configure.

It will also be useful for those who need to superimpose their mark on several photos at once. For example, you can click a couple of clicks and hundreds of photos will be with your logo.

How to do this, watch this short video instruction:

Types of watermarks

Watermarks can be divided into 2 types. The first type is the application of text to the image. The second type is the application of a logo to the image.

Minus text. It looks simple, boring and sometimes even ruins the whole look of the photo.

Plus text. Fast and easy application to the photo.

Minus the image. The picture for the watermark will have to be ordered from the designer (money is needed). Or you have to look for a suitable topic on the Internet. Or draw yourself (it takes time).

Pluses of the picture. Looks nice and professional.

In custody

These three methods will be enough to complete the desired task. Add my instructions to your bookmarks so that you will always have it at hand at the right time.

If you know more free services for creating and adding watermarks, please share them in the comments! I would love to add them to my list.

How to Watermark in Photoshop: A Guide to Working with Photos Prepared for the Web.

There are different ways to apply a watermark. I'll tell you how I do it. Before posting a photo on the Internet, I prepare a 400x600 pixels copy of it.

Now let's start creating a watermark.

Let's create in Photoshop a new file for the web, 640x480 pixels with a transparent background.

Take the Horizontal Type Tool.

In the top menu, select a suitable font. In my case, this is the font used for the blog title.

I'll take the Times New Romans font. Let's make the font color white.

In the layers window, click on the indicated icon and create a new layer.

Then we print the text:

Now in the layers window, click on the specified icon (Layer Style). In the list, select the Embossing parameter. You can play with the settings or leave the default values.

The inscription has become embossed.

Then, in the layers window, reduce the saturation of the layer. To do this, adjust the Opacity and Fill parameters.

The lettering will become transparent, almost invisible.

Then we will save the resulting result in psd format. In the future, we will use it to apply to images. (About where to get - read in one of the following articles on the site).

Open the image you want to watermark in Photoshop. I will show the application of a watermark on a photo of my little son.

Go to File-Place and select our saved watermark. The text along with the transformation frame will appear in the center of the image:

Now you can resize the decal. In order for it to proportionally change in size, press and hold Shift, while dragging outside the corner of the transformation frame.

You can also rotate the text box and position it vertically or diagonally using the transform box.

To move the watermark to the desired location, use the Move tool

In the top menu, select Layers-Run Flatten. Then we save the image, File-Save.

Now you know how to make a watermark in Photoshop. The result looks unobtrusive due to its transparency, but at the same time it is clearly visible in the photo.

I wish you successful work!
