Gear lever lock. Gearbox lock - is it effective? Where and how is it installed

In this article, we will talk about mechanical anti-theft devices - hood, pedal, gearbox, door locks. Let's take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Even a simple mechanical security measure, such as "steering wheel locks" can deter a criminal from encroaching on a car. Indeed, in order to eliminate mechanical protection, it must first be found. Usually, anti-theft devices are hidden from prying eyes and installed in unpredictable places.

An attacker can find them, but this takes time. As we know, the time delay plays into the hands of car owners. According to statistics, if a criminal fiddles with a car for more than two or three minutes, then he will probably refuse to steal. Mechanical anti-theft is used to protect the car, and we will analyze which one to choose below.

Transmission, hood, door interlocks

The most common mechanical protection is gearbox lock. They come in complex and simple shapes, arc or pin. Typically, such a lock is installed on the reverse gear lock, i.e. the lever cannot be moved from this position. So it's impossible to move.

The criminals act as follows: they squeeze the clutch and roll the car to the right place. Firstly, it is inconvenient and takes a lot of time, and secondly, passers-by will pay attention to this action. This means that in a place where there is a large crowd of people or during daylight hours, the hijackers have a minimal chance.

If there are doubts about the transmission lock, then it is more reliable to use an additional pedal lock. Then the car (especially with the "automatic") will not be able to budge, without your knowledge. The question arises, is it possible to simply cut the lock? According to the developers, their products are made from durable modern materials, the lock cylinder is resistant to drilling, and the secrecy of the digital code is several tens of millions of combinations.

If you do not trust external blockers and do not believe in their good protection, then you can use the internal lock. It has a similar principle of operation, only the protection mechanism is located in the bowels of the gearbox. Those. no brackets and levers, only one lock cylinder next to the transmission lever. There is a nuance: to whom to entrust the installation of an internal blocker. After all, you have to disassemble the transmission to install it and this operation is not cheap.

There is a special hood lock cable. Its task is to prevent intruders from opening the hood. As a result, they will not be able to remove the battery or block the electronic alarm. The hood lock cable is controlled from the passenger compartment, where there is a turnkey larva.

There is a mechanical anti-theft device that blocks the brake or clutch drive. The bottom line is that a check valve is installed in the corresponding circuit, for example, the brake system, which is controlled from the passenger compartment. When trying to steal a car, when the offender presses the brake pedal for the first time, this will cause a blockage of the brake circuit. The car becomes incapable of further movement, because the wheels will be blocked.

For full protection, this system has an additional possibility of blocking in the car's electrical circuit. For example, in addition to blocking the brake circuit, the starter can be blocked.

Blockers are used to protect against theft.. These are additional cylindrical pins that are installed to protect entry into the vehicle interior. Simply, in order to steal a car to a criminal, you must first enter the salon. To prevent access, blockers are used that are installed in the doors of the car. These are not purely mechanical devices, but electromechanical. The bottom line is that the blocker opens only from the native key, no other will do.

Blockers are protected against opening with a master key or a metal ruler. Of course, you can break the glass and thus get into the interior of a stolen car, but why spoil the look of the car? It's not good for thieves.

Among other mechanical anti-theft tools, we note: steering column locks, which protects the steering wheel from turning and anti-theft ignition locks. The latter are made of very durable materials and have a good degree of resistance to burglary. Anti-theft ignition locks are a good alternative to conventional steering locks, although they require replacement of the standard lock.

Even the most primitive anti-theft can save the car from the actions of intruders. The most important thing is a correct and reliable installation. You should not install them at the dealer, they break when stolen for “one or two”. You need to look for a third-party service that specializes in installing anti-theft tools. And better - a non-standard solution during installation, which will scare off hijackers. A simple hidden button in a secret place that blocks the starter will be better than fancy anti-thefts. After all, where it is - no one will look.

Bottom line: the most primitive mechanical anti-theft tool can save a car from theft. It is the use of a good alarm in conjunction with a mechanical anti-theft that is the key to reliable protection against theft.

Along with electronic anti-theft systems, mechanical interlocks of various important vehicle components are widely used. One such device is the transmission lock.

These blockers are available in three versions. Pin, arc and pinless. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. Let's try to figure them out.

So, the arc lock of the gearbox. As the name implies, the gearshift lever is locked using a special bracket that covers the lever and is secured with a lock. The latest generation of arc locks began to use high-security locks that are almost impossible to crack.

Gearbox arc lock

The disadvantage of this device is its overall dimensions, they "spoil" the appearance of the car interior, unsuccessfully fitting into the interior.

Pin blockers of the checkpoint are already a more advanced model of the blocker. The locking element in this device is a heavy-duty pin, which is inserted by the owner of the car until it stops, is fixed and thus blocks the lever in such a way that its switching is impossible, as well as the movement of the car. When the lever is unlocked, the pin is pulled out and put into a specially designed holder, which is provided specifically for this.

Gearbox pin lock

To extract the pin, a key is used, when turning which the pin comes out so that it can be pulled out, and when it is inserted to block it, it remains literally a few millimeters outside, that is, it is simply not possible to hook it.

The case of such blocker is also made of the strongest steel. The pin blocker, unlike the previous one, harmoniously fits into the car interior.

The most versatile gearbox locks are pinless locks, which are also used on automatic transmissions. The device is located inside the gearbox, only the keyhole gives out its presence. The task of the car owner before leaving is to close the gearbox lock with a key. At the same time, inside the box, the device blocks the lever. No fiddling with staples or pins. Before starting the movement, the lever is also unlocked with a key.

Pinless gearbox lock

Considering that the range of cars is simply huge, manufacturers also produce checkpoint blockers, both universal, which are suitable for almost any car, and specifically for each brand of car separately, taking into account all the design features.

Based on the foregoing, we can conclude that, judging by the ease of use and aesthetics, pinless locks can be put in the first place, then pin devices come, and arc locks of the checkpoint close this row, as not very convenient and, one might even say, outdated devices.

Now let's try to answer the question, can the gearbox lock really protect the car from the adversary-theft?

If the gearbox is mechanical, then by depressing the clutch, you can roll the car a certain distance in order to safely dismantle this blocker there. That's how it is... BUT...

Here, too, factors may play a role. A car with the clutch depressed will not drive on its own. It will either have to be pushed or towed. And those are pretty significant moves. It is quite problematic to go unnoticed when pushing a car out of a city parking lot. Of course, if the car is in a backyard, then no one will even pay attention to people pushing the car.

If the gearbox is automatic, then the hijackers act easily and simply. By bending back the plastic protective panels, they disconnect the locked shift lever from the so-called shift gate, and by pulling it, they can select the gear they need. But here, too, one can hope that a lazy hijacker will come across who does not want to mess around and simply switches his attention to another car that is not equipped with such a blocker.

It must be understood that checkpoint blockers are not used as independent anti-theft devices. Their installation makes sense in a complex of carefully thought-out security systems consisting of several elements. This is another complication for hijackers, which requires spending time, which the attacker simply does not have.

Unfortunately, regardless of the degree of burglary resistance, only one mechanic should be installed as protection against theft

Before you continue exploring our site, I recommend that you download and read our book. "Theft Protection Guide" which we made especially for you. There you will find answers to 90% of questions related to theft protection.

Hijackers often have worse equipment than CIA agents. They easily turn off alarms, jam satellite beacons, intercept encrypted codes to open a car, and easily bypass various locks.

It is clear that electronics are electronics, but do not write off the good old mechanics. Let us consider in more detail such a thing as a checkpoint blocker. What does he represent?

This lock is located inside the car. There are arc, pinless and pin blockers. But the essence of their work is the same - to fix the gearshift lever in one position, preventing further switching.

Pin locks - the gearshift lever is fixed with a pin made of the strongest steel. To unlock it, then with a special key, the blocker lock opens and the pin comes out, so much so that it can be grabbed and pulled out.

Pinless interlocks - also have a pin, but it is hidden inside the gearbox and there is no need to constantly remove it back and forth. A special lock is displayed in the cabin, by turning the key in which the owner of the car activates or deactivates the blocker.

Pinless gear lock

Arc lock gearbox - is an arc that wraps around the gearshift lever and fixes it in a fixed position. These blockers, in turn, are divided into model and universal. Model bollards - initially made for certain car brands, universal bollards, mainly installed on "not new" cars.

It seems that the thing is quite reliable, and may well interfere with the hijacker. Let's try to weigh the pros and cons. What can be attributed to the advantages of such a protection method as a gearbox lock?

Advantages:
It is clear that by installing such a lock, you will create an additional obstacle for the hijacker. After all, it will be quite problematic to roll back the car, having previously squeezed the clutch, so that the people around do not pay attention. And there is no time to fiddle with these pins, trying to unlock the gearbox, so the attackers do not have. This is where the merits end.

Disadvantages:
If the pin and pinless gearbox lock still somehow fits into the interior of the car, due to its compact size, then the arc lock is quite large, and somehow does not decorate the interior of the car with its presence at all.

If you can somehow put up with the shortcomings of the aesthetic plan, then put up with the fact that the checkpoint blocker is quite easy to bypass, somehow more difficult. By simply depressing the clutch, you can roll the car away from the parking lot.

Experienced hijackers sometimes get to the inside of the gearbox through the hood, so it is also desirable close access to the space under the hood.

Everyone will decide for himself whether it makes sense to put this blocker on his car. There is only one conclusion that can be drawn, that as an independent anti-theft device, the gearbox blocker will absolutely not justify your hopes. Perhaps, as part of a carefully thought-out security complex, he will make his modest contribution to protection against theft, but this will not be a very big contribution.

Mechanical means of protection are an effective means of protection that complements electronic security systems. Hacking or dismantling a mechanical transmission lock takes time and creates a lot of noise that draws attention to the hijacker.

The principle of operation and functions of the blocker

The principle of operation of the car transmission blocker is based on the limitation of the mobility of the elements of the gearshift drive. A steel rod secures the shift lever in park mode on an automatic transmission or in forward or reverse gears for a manual transmission.

Blockers can restrict the mobility of the following elements:

  • gearshift lever;
  • cables connecting the lever and the switching mechanism on the box;
  • switching mechanisms on the box itself.

The use of a mechanical interlock on vehicles with manual transmission excludes the use of an automatic engine start and warm-up system.

Kinds

Blockers are divided into several types depending on the type of installation and the versatility of the design. The simplest are arc blockers on the box, which do not require the installation of guide elements on the car. The devices do not provide a high degree of protection because they are easily cut off.

According to the principle of action, blockers can be divided into two categories:

  • mechanical, in which the lock is performed by turning the key or inserting the pin;
  • electromechanical (the crossbar moves with the help of an electromagnet).

Pinless

The device was called pinless not because of the absence of a pin in the design, but because of the non-removable design of the blocking rod. The base of the blocker is installed on the link of the gearbox, the control is carried out using a rotary larva. The larva is located in a steel durable case mounted on a base. The housing is displayed on the side of the center console.

Pinless transmission yoke blocker

pin

The pin blocker has a removable element in its design. Before installing the pin, it is required to set the gear lever to a certain position, which is determined when installing the product. The pin is then inserted into the pilot hole and automatically clicks into place. The element has a spring-loaded support that pushes the pin out when the key is turned in the lock.

Pin blocker backstage gearbox

Universal

Universal blockers are designed for use on various vehicles equipped with automatic transmission (automatic transmission) or manual transmission (manual transmission). The installation of the protective device requires modifications to the backstage and a good knowledge of the gearshift mechanism. Universal bollards can be equipped with both a removable and a fixed fixing pin. Products of this type are currently practically not found due to the complexity of creating a universal design.

model

Devices of this class are developed for the design features of a specific car model or model range based on one platform. Due to this, the device does not require any modifications to the car structure, except for making holes for the lock cylinder or installing a pin.

Model Box Blocker

Advantages and disadvantages

The main advantages of a mechanical gearbox lock:

  1. Increase car theft time by a few minutes. According to statistics, if the hijacker could not leave on the opened vehicle within 2-3 minutes, then he will leave it.
  2. Ease of use. This is especially true for pinless or electromechanical devices.

Product disadvantages:

  1. Difficulty of installation.
  2. Despite the ads, the locks are opened fairly quickly. According to the reviews of the owners, Dragon blockers are opened by the bumping method in a few minutes (the owners resorted to the services of specialized companies after losing the keys).
  3. The blocker usually fixes the shift cables on the wings. The cable connection points to the gearbox are usually not protected. An attacker can open the hood, remove or bite off the cables from the rocking chairs mounted on the gearshift shaft. The gear is then manually engaged and the vehicle can move. On cars with automatic transmission, it is much more efficient to install an electronic chip that breaks the circuit from the control unit. Until the signal from the label is read, the box either does not switch speeds, or turns off the engine when the selector is moved through the neutral position.
  4. A machine with a manual transmission can move in reverse.
  5. A vehicle equipped with a manual transmission can be towed. A car with an automatic transmission can be stolen by partial or full loading.

The video provided by the MustafaFurnis channel demonstrates the opening of the lock cylinder of the Construct blocker using the bumping method.

How to install?

The method of installing the blockers depends on the model of the car and the design of the console. To install the elements of the blocker, it is required to gain access to the attachment points of the wings to the welded nuts or studs located on the central tunnel of the body. To do this, you will have to remove the console completely or only the upper part with the gear shift knob installed.

When installing a mechanical interlock system for the gearshift drive, it is recommended to follow a few rules:

  1. Mechanical devices must be used in conjunction with electronic protective equipment or other mechanical interlocks. When the two types of protection are used together, the risk of theft is significantly reduced.
  2. Installation of mechanical protective equipment must be carried out in specialized workshops. This is due to the fact that the installation requires the accuracy of the relative position of the elements. Erroneous installation can cause incorrect operation of the backstage when the lock is disabled.

Self-installation of locks on manual and automatic transmissions should be carried out by people who have experience in installing such products. Otherwise, there is a risk of damage to expensive vehicle components.

For manual transmission

As an example, the installation of a Construct blocker on a 6-speed mechanics of a Ford Focus car is considered:

  1. Remove the top cover of the console together with the shift handle and boot.
  2. Loosen the bolts securing the backstage to the body.
  3. Install the locking bracket on the front of the backstage.
  4. On the central part of the backstage, fix a part of the blocker with a lock cylinder.
  5. Mount the third body part of the blocker.
  6. A bracket is installed on the shift lever, with the help of which the movement is limited. The bracket has a hole into which the crossbar enters.
  7. Check the operation of the blocker, the bolt must block the lever without jamming.
  8. All bolts must be tightened to the correct torque. The tightening torques for the bolts on the body can be found in the repair instructions for the vehicle. The tightening torques of the threaded connections of the blocker parts are indicated in the instructions. When tightened, the bolt heads break off, making it more difficult for an intruder to remove the device.
  9. Mark the location of the hole for the lock cylinder.
  10. Drill a pilot hole with a small diameter, then drill a hole for the larva with a bit of the appropriate size.
  11. Install the cover in place.

Part of the installation steps is shown in the photo.

One of the options for the blocker Garant Consul

The blocker is characterized by:

  1. The design of the device uses the lock part manufactured by Abloy Protec, which has almost 2 billion key combinations.
  2. The larva is installed in a cylindrical thick-walled housing made of steel. The thickness of the walls of the case is 4 mm.
  3. To block the gearshift drive, a retractable bolt made of high-strength steel is installed.
  4. The larva of the lock is displayed closer to the top of the console, which simplifies the work with the lock. To turn the mechanism on and off, just turn the key by 180°. Locking is only possible with a certain position of the shift lever.
  5. The fixing brackets of the lock are made of 5 mm steel sheet. The elements are interconnected by welding and covered with a powder coating that provides protection against corrosion.
  6. The bollard is mounted on bolts with shear heads on standard attachment points on the car body. The blocker can only be removed by drilling out the fixing bolts.

Electromechanical interlock Garant iP-GR belongs to a new generation of devices. To control the blocking, an additional channel of the security complex or a special key fob is used, which must be brought to the reader.

Delivery set of blocker Garant iP-GR

Characteristic features of the blocker:

  1. Welded steel construction, mounted on standard fixing points with shear bolts.
  2. Model diagram lock, a separate modification is produced for each car.
  3. The package includes additional protective brackets that restrict access to the shift cables. The brackets do not allow the box to be controlled by removing the console and shifting the shift cables with various tools.
  4. The lock has a built-in safety element that prevents the box from blocking in motion or when stopped. The fuse responds to the state of the ignition system by blocking the bolt of the device when the engine is running.
  5. Disconnecting the standard battery does not deactivate the protective device.
  6. The compact dimensions of the bollard make it possible to hide it completely under the trim of the center console. Only the combination pushbutton switch with a ring antenna mounted around the pushbutton remains visible.
  7. The device uses a hack-resistant crypto-code. The signal is read when the mark approaches at a distance of 50 mm from the antenna. Such an algorithm excludes the interception of the control code by an attacker.

Firm "Fortus"

A common type of pinless lock is Fortus products. Shift blocking is performed by fixing the backstage in the reverse gear position (for mechanics) or in the parking position (for automatic).

Castle features include:

  1. Use of Mul-T-Lock locking cylinders equipped with high alloy steel pins.
  2. Installation of additional carbide inserts in the cylinder body, which make drilling difficult.
  3. The pin springs are made of acid-resistant beryllium bronze. The lock cannot be opened by etching the larva with acids.
  4. The design of the key has a floating pin. Removing the key from the lock, the owner takes part of the secret combination. A similar design is developed by Mul T-Lock Interactive.
  5. The key and pins have a special coating of nickel and silver alloy, which ensures the ease of operation of the mechanism.
  6. The lock has a bar that prevents dirt from getting inside. The cylinder mechanism does not require lubrication and remains operational over a wide temperature range.
  7. The lock comes with three keys. For making duplicates, a card with a code is included in the package. Specialized workshops can produce an additional key using this code.
  8. It is possible to use the lock in combination with other protective devices.

Fortus box mechanical lock

On the basis of a mechanical lock, Fortus developed an electromechanical device. The blocker can be turned off together with the burglar alarm or by bringing a tag to the reader. The characteristics of the blocker are similar to the parameters of the Garant iP-GR device.

Company "Cerberus-M"

The third common type of blockers are pinless and pinned products of the Cerber-M company, known under the brand name "Dragon". Blockers can be installed not only on the main gearbox, but also on the transfer gearbox.

Features of pinned and pinless products "Dragon":

  1. Application for the case of high-strength steels with subsequent heat treatment. The geometric scheme complicates the procedure of force hacking.
  2. The locking bolt is made of several elements. The crossbar drive resists force influences. The design of the drive is patented.
  3. The design of the blocker has additional protective elements that prevent access to vulnerable nodes.
  4. The lock cylinder has over 3.5 million combinations. The larva uses additional protective inserts that increase the knot's resistance to twisting or drilling. The small dimensions of the cylinder do not spoil the appearance of the car interior.

Firm "Construct"

On the market of anti-theft devices, there are blockers under the brand name Construct, which are produced in the Czech Republic:

  1. Pinless circuit.
  2. The lock has increased resistance to mechanical, chemical and thermal burglary methods.
  3. Built-in protection against rotation of the larva.

Appearance of the blocker Construct

One of the most common crimes against the property of citizens is car theft.

This type of illegal actions in our country steadily ranks second (after burglaries), and not only expensive premium cars, but also budget options for vehicles, including used domestic cars and foreign cars, are subjected to encroachment by "third parties".

Therefore, it is important to provide optimal measures to protect your car, including the installation of an anti-theft transmission locking system.

Device types

Blocking systems are aimed at creating internal and external protection of the car from theft and other unauthorized encroachments.

They are complexes of devices of various types that work together or separately protect units, components, areas of the car from intruders.

It should be remembered that anti-theft agents do not provide a 100% guarantee against the theft of a car, but they significantly reduce the likelihood of misappropriation of a vehicle or an unauthorized trip on it. Protective equipment also helps in finding the car in case of theft.

Modern blocking devices can be classified on two grounds: the principle of operation and functional purpose.

According to the principle of action

According to the principle of operation, car protective systems are divided into three types:

  • electronic devices;
  • mechanical devices;
  • electromechanical units.

Immobilizers are electronic anti-theft protection means of a car; they can be installed in the standard configuration of the car.

Mechanical protection is provided by the transmission lever lock.

The electromechanical way to protect a car involves the use of two components (electronic and mechanical) in an anti-theft device (for example, door and hood locks).

By appointment

Depending on the tasks of car protection, anti-theft systems are selected for their intended purpose:

  1. car alarms(informing systems with monitoring function). Such devices are equipped with special sensors that inform the owner of the car or security services about attempts to enter the car. They are also able to determine the location of the car after theft.
  2. blocking devices. The main purpose of anti-theft systems of this type is to prevent access to the nodes and assemblies that control the movement of the machine. Blockers can be electronic, mechanical or electromechanical. So, immobilizers (from the English immobiliser - “immobilizer”) block unauthorized starting of a car by electronic methods. Mechanical protections prevent access to individual components and controls of the machine (gearbox, steering wheel, cardan shaft).

Anti-theft devices are aimed at creating special barriers for the attacker, which make his work difficult, and in some cases impossible.

The installation of blocking systems is carried out only in the conditions of specialized centers that have a certificate for the installation of protective equipment on a car.

The maximum protection of the vehicle against theft with the aim of appropriating someone else's property is ensured by the correct selection of protective devices based on the principle of complexity.

How they work

Car alarms are a type of modern car security systems. It refers to electronic security systems that are aimed at preventing unauthorized access to the car in order to steal or steal vehicle components.

The installation allows you to effectively control the perimeter and interior of the car. When the ignition is turned off, the alarm immediately blocks the engine start system.

In case of unauthorized access to the hood, doors or trunk of a car, a protective mechanism is immediately triggered - a perimeter control sensor and an audible signal.

To choose the right car alarm, you need to consider a number of factors:

  1. Car storage conditions (guarded or unguarded parking)
  2. The cost of the car (obviously, the more expensive the car, the more comprehensive its protection should be). Installing expensive equipment on an inexpensive car, in principle, is not advisable.
  3. The presence of a regular immobilizer in the car. In its absence, the protection of the vehicle against theft should be enhanced and comprehensive.

When choosing a security and anti-theft system, you should always keep in mind the ratio: functionality-price-quality.

The principle of operation of car alarms

The operation of the alarm system is based on the principle of electronic coding of the signal of radio waves coming from the central unit of the device installed in the passenger compartment.

Car thieves have learned to copy this method of encoding a radio signal, which, using a special device, are able to calculate the frequency of the incoming signal and neutralize it in a few seconds. As a result, attackers get free access to the car.

To prevent such an outcome and protect your property as much as possible, it is necessary to purchase alarms with special software - a different-frequency exchange signal with the central unit of the protective device. In this case, the protection of the car will be more reliable.

Attention! The effectiveness of a car alarm, which has an extended list of service functions to ensure driver comfort, is significantly increased when combined with an immobilizer or other type of security device.

Neutralization of two security systems at once reduces the chances of intruders to steal a car. In addition, the combination of a car alarm with an immobilizer can prevent theft of equipment from the passenger compartment, wheels, as well as damage to the body.

The choice of a specific car alarm model depends on the design features of the car, as well as on the desire of the car owner to install certain service functions in the anti-theft system.

Principles of operation of mechanical protective devices

Mechanical anti-theft devices (MPU) are manufactured in the form of three main modifications:

  • lock on the steering mechanism (steering shaft);
  • car hood lock.

Protective devices of two types are installed on the gearbox (gearbox): pin and pinless locks.

Pin locks for blocking the gearbox are mounted by placing a special pin in the counterpart of the device. It is impossible to dismount such mechanical protection without a key.

Only with the help of a special opening device is the pin removed from the control structure and thus the gear change is restored.

The pinless design of the lock on the gearbox does not imply limiting the shift mechanism with a pin. In this case, locking and unlocking are performed by a key.

A modern device is installed on the automatic transmission - a mechanical Mul-T-Lock lock on the automatic transmission. This mechanism is highly efficient and easy to use.

The blocker is selected individually for each car. The design is pinless, just insert the key into the keyhole and turn 180 degrees.

The lock on the steering mechanism in most cases is a pin device. The principle of its operation is to block the steering shaft in the steering clutch.

In terms of its anti-theft potential, a mechanical lock on the steering shaft is inferior to a transmission lock. However, the installation of a particular protective device depends on the design features of a particular vehicle.

On front-wheel drive vehicles with an automatic transmission (automatic transmission), for example, the gearbox lock can be set by directly switching the box to the “Drive” position through a cable from under the bottom of the car.

And installing a pin lock on the steering shaft will be extremely inconvenient when operating a car with a low torpedo. Therefore, before deciding to install a protective device on a car, a preliminary consultation with specialists is necessary.

The mechanical lock on the hood of the car can be mechanical and electromechanical. To block a regular lock, as a rule, mechanical locking devices are used.

If an additional locking device of the DEFEN TIME type is installed in addition to the standard lock, then an electromechanical lock is not required to block the hood. The lock is controlled by an alarm or immobilizer.

The lock on the hood prevents intruders from entering the engine compartment in order to turn off the alarm and sound alerts. This enhances the anti-theft effect of the car's security system.

Advantages and disadvantages

A variety of protective systems for a car allows you to choose a specific mechanism, taking into account the degree of required functionality and price category.

However, the highest quality security devices do not guarantee complete protection of the machine from theft or theft of components.

In order for protection to be optimal, one should always remember the complexity of the installed security system, since individual mechanisms, in addition to obvious advantages, also have their drawbacks.

The use of several levels of protection at the same time allows you to reliably protect any car - from a prestigious foreign car to domestic Zhiguli.

The simplest alarms in the form of a key fob with buttons do not provide for feedback. Such protection on a car is suitable for those who store the car in the parking lot around the house or in a specialized paid parking lot.

An audible alarm notifies you of attempts to enter the interior of the car or open the hood. Other features of this model are not available.

The two-way signaling increases a zone of control. The installed sensors are triggered in all suspicious cases, about which the owner receives a notification on the display screen of the alarm key fob. Even if there is no sound, the alarm starts the sign notification system.

Many car alarm models are equipped with the option of connecting to a smartphone, which allows the owner to see his car using mobile communications.

Elite car alarm modifications have many additional functions for remote control of the car:

  • warming up the car, taking into account the timer;
  • starting the air conditioner;
  • auto start of the engine by programming the time;
  • remote opening and opening of doors;
  • triggering shock and volume sensors at a distance of 2 km;
  • dynamic and interactive communication coding.

The disadvantages of various types of car alarms is the vulnerability of feedback coding systems with the base device.

In the case of dynamic coding based on a special KeeLoq algorithm, the alarm units in the passenger compartment and on the key fob easily recognize each other by changing the coding.

However, car thieves have learned to create special devices for (code grabbers) to copy source codes, so that after rewriting they can quickly select the desired code option and open the car. Such a scheme allows you to cope with even the most expensive alarm.

Car alarm conversational coding also uses KeeLoq, but unlike dynamic signal coding, the more complex capabilities of the static and dynamic algorithm are used.

For burglars, this version of the security system presents great difficulties, since the options for hacking it are not well understood by attackers.

In order to increase the protection of your car, in addition to car alarms, you must install checkpoint blockers, an immobilizer, mechanical devices on the brakes that open electrical circuits, and locking devices.

All this will help turn the car into a well-protected object and prevent car theft.

How to install and the cost of installing an automatic transmission lock from theft

The complete set of new cars includes a minimum set of functions to ensure safety requirements regarding the protection of the car. This is clearly not enough to fully protect the vehicle.

An expedient solution is to replace the standard installation with a specialized security system. This will increase the security of the car from theft and theft of components and equipment in the cabin.

An alternative to a costly insurance service that includes auto theft claims, according to many motorists, is the patented locking device on the Mul-T-Lock automatic transmission.

It is necessary to carry out all activities for the installation of an auto security system either at dealerships or special auto repair shops that have permission to conduct this type of activity.

The cost of services for the installation of car alarms:

Name of service Lower limit of cost, rub.

How motorists respond

Mechanical interlocks on automatic transmissions do an excellent job of preventing the car from moving when trying to steal it.

The device securely locks the transmission shift lever in one position (pin and pinless).

However, automatic transmission blockers are not an independent security device that effectively counteracts car theft.

Pin models securely lock the gear lever in the neutral position, and it is impossible to shift it. You can move the car from a place only with the help of towing.

Cutting a thick pin on the spot is almost impossible. However, there are also disadvantages. For example, the key to the lock breaks in the cold, and this causes a lot of problems for the owner. It is also problematic to drill a key in a service center.

You have to drill out the entire castle and purchase a new cost more 11000 rudders. Therefore, despite the high functionality and, consequently, the high cost of the device, under specific conditions, the operation of this model may be one-time.

The Mul-T-Lock on an automatic transmission is, from the point of view of most drivers, an excellent anti-theft tool. It is recommended to purchase a lock from DRAGON, as its design has a welded base.
