The ancient city of Arkaim, located in the Chelyabinsk region, is a real secret of the distant history of mankind. By right, Arkaim can be considered one of the most significant archaeological sites in Russia. An interesting fact is that the discovery of this unique city of antiquity was made by only two scientists (S. G. Botalov and V. S. Mosin), who were sent on a standard task.
It was in 1987. For the needs of the local irrigation system, it was necessary to build a reservoir. According to the then rules, before implementing such ideas, it was required to explore the area for archaeological finds.
Both scientists rather dejectedly began to study the Ural steppe. They were helped by schoolchildren from neighboring areas and enthusiasts. Quickly enough, archaeologists discovered unusual reliefs that were first noticed by military cartographers back in 1957.

However, despite the obvious importance of the find, the construction zone of the economic system should have been flooded. And only thanks to the persistent and principled position of the Director of the Hermitage B.B. Piotrovsky managed to defend this unique historical monument.
To date, the complex has been restored in many of its aspects. By the way, Arkaim is named after the name of a nearby mountain. But let's see what characteristics this mysterious reserve has.
The ancient city of Arkaim
Many interesting facts are connected with this place. We will only talk about the main things, in our opinion.
So, the diameter of the city, or, as it is more accurately called, the fortified settlement of Arkaim, is only 170 meters. By modern standards, this is not much, but given that these structures were built at least 4 thousand years ago, you are involuntarily surprised at the details.

Arkaim is surrounded by two walls, and inside there are apartment buildings. A ditch with water was built around the fortress, with an average depth of 2 meters, to protect against an external enemy. The outer wall, which had four entrances, was almost 5 meters thick at a height of 5.5 meters. The square was in the center. People lived and worked in the city, while animals grazed outside the walls and climbed inside only in case of emergency.
The inner seven-meter wall was 3 meters thick and had only one entrance. To get to the central part of the city, it was necessary to go along the entire length of the ring street.

Almost all buildings are made of ordinary logs, which are stuffed with clay inside. There are also structures made of dried (not fired) bricks.
Workshops, pottery and metallurgical production, as well as premises for public and private use were found in the Arkaim fortress.
Around the settlement, a storm sewer was provided, which diverted water outside the fortress.

According to scientists, this place was inhabited by representatives of the Caucasian race. Reconstructions of the skulls of men and women from Arkaim can be found in Chelyabinsk museums.
It is not known for certain how long this fortress existed. It was possible to establish only the fact that the city was destroyed by fire. What it was - arson, an accident or an enemy attack - is also unclear.
Arkaim and the Country of Cities
Be that as it may, but this unique reserve has become the basis for many studies in general and the discovery of a large archaeological complex - the Country of Cities in particular. Scientists have revealed many interesting facts related to this settlement.
So, on a fairly large area (about 350 kilometers), many fortresses were found, built according to the type of Arkaim, which indicates a well-established civilization of that time.

This territory today is called the Country of Cities. History has not preserved any exact information about the Country of Cities, therefore all hopes for restoring the past are placed only on archaeologists. By the way, excavations and research are still being carried out here, in which outstanding scientists from many countries of the world take part.
- The monument was first discovered by cartographers in 1957. However, no studies have been undertaken.
- In 1987, a cultural center was opened, and active research work was carried out.
- The walls of Arkaim, consisting of two rings, have a total area of 20,000 square meters.
- The central square, which, apparently, served as a place for some ritual actions, measured 25x27 meters.
- 35 dwellings were found near the outer wall, 25 dwellings near the inner wall.
- Artistic figurines and ceramic vessels were found in Arkaim.
- Wells, pantries, kitchens with hearths and bedrooms were found in the houses. In each courtyard there was a small workshop where they were engaged in modeling and sewing clothes, carpentry and preparing weapons. The most common artisans were blacksmiths and casters.

Putin, in connection with which there were rumors that this is a real source of extraterrestrial power. In the south of the Chelyabinsk region, not far from the village of Amursky and even closer to it, the village of Aleksandrovsky (just two kilometers away). There are two rivers nearby - Bolshaya Karaganka and Utyaganka. The easiest way to get to the settlement is from Chelyabinsk or Magnitogorsk. How was Arkaim discovered?
In fact, the researchers were helped by chance. In 1987, an expedition was sent out to get acquainted with the place where the reservoir was to be built soon. They did not even hope to find valuable artifacts there. Luckily for the scientists, one of the student interns wanted to fly over the area in an airplane. And from the sky it became clear that the field was covered with two concentric circles. Excavations began, and an ancient settlement was discovered. Since 1991, this area has been declared a protected area. 
What is special about Arkaim?
It is believed that this is the cradle of the ancient Aryans, the ancestral home of all Slavs. Many online call it a place of power. According to some versions, an ancient observatory was located there and scientists lived. This hypothesis can be confirmed by the fact that all exits from the city are correlated with the position of the sun during the solstice and equinox.
A special energy comes from the nearest mountains - Love, Shamanka, Reason, Visions, Repentance and others. Tourists love to see off and meet the sun at sunsets and sunrises from the highest local mountain of Love. From here you have a beautiful panoramic view. Mount Shamanka is no less popular.

When determined archaeologists crave discoveries, they usually happen. That is what happened this time as well. S. G. Botalov, V.S. Mosina and a group of students went on a routine task that did not bode well: a survey of the territory between the Berdinsky and Kizilsky districts in the Chelyabinsk region. It is necessary to check the land before the large construction of the Bolshe-Karagan reservoir. This is where Arkaim was discovered. Due to fortunate circumstances, the construction was canceled, and the city of the Middle Bronze Age remained the property of Russia.
The easiest way to start in Arkaim is from Chelyabinsk. You can fly to it by plane for 4000-5000 from Moscow. The direct flight will take about 2 hours. A flight with transfers from 6 to 15. In any case, this is less than traveling for two days. The price of a reserved seat is 3500, a compartment is 6000. From the Yunost station in Chelyabinsk, a bus to Arkaim departs at 16-20 daily from June 1 to September 15. Travel time 6 hours.
If you plan to go to the place of power from Magnitogorsk, take the bus to Breda. It leaves at 15:30. This option is inconvenient because transport drops tourists at a fork, from which you need to walk 7 kilometers. How to get to Arkaim by car
If you can't imagine traveling without a car, the good news is that there is a road for passenger transport to Arkaim. After Chelyabinsk, proceed towards Yuzhnouralsk. Drive past, leaving behind Stepnoye, Agapovka, Kizilskoye, Obruchaevsky. You don't need to visit Magnitogorsk. The road to the settlement is broken, sometimes turning into a grader. Therefore, if you are driving a car with low ground clearance in the rain, be especially careful.
The best point for rest before visiting Arkaim will be the village of Aleksandrovsky, where there are several hotels and hostels for discerning travelers. From it to the "place of power" is only 2.7 kilometers: overcome them by car or on foot. The second option is preferable - the nearest sights of Arkaim begin a little further than the outskirts
If you want to live near the water, choose . It is located three minutes from the beach of the Bolshaya Karaganka River. A place for one person will cost 500 rubles in a common room or 1,500 in a double room. Guests can enjoy a continental breakfast and meals at the on-site restaurant. What does Arkaim look like?
Arkaim was built in the form of a circle with a diameter of 170 meters. If we take into account that people lived in it 4-5 thousand years ago, the scale of the settlement is amazing. There were inner and outer circles, a rather deep ditch with water was dug. It served as a protective barrier against attacks by nomads. The outer wall, 5 meters thick and 5.5 meters high, reliably sheltered the inhabitants from prying eyes. An inner 3-meter wall with one entrance led to the center of Arkaim.
The townspeople lived in tenement barracks located on both sides of the circles. Animals were kept outside the walls of the city and went inside for great need, for example, in battles with neighbors.
All the buildings of Arkaim are made of dry brick without support or logs connected by clay. During the excavations, pottery workshops, forges, and spinning mills were discovered. The city was destroyed by fire, as the archaeologists were told by the land burned for several meters and the remains of coal.
Even a strong desire to get to Arkaim will not help if the ancient city does not want to accept you. After all, many miracles have not been unraveled: Arkaim froze in his mystery and does not let “bad” people into the territory. It is said that by visiting the city, a good person will recover. At the same time, the disease and the degree of its neglect are not important - the land of the ancestors will accept it.
