How to prepare RAPTOR?

Since the cans or bottles are 750 grams, they still have 250 grams left for the hardener. And that totals 1000 grams. At this ratio, the mixture is almost ready for application. It should be stirred for a few minutes, you can simply close the jar and shake.

Hardener comes in a variety of concentrations and characteristics, allowing you to select different drying parameters. There are options that dry almost 20 - 30 minutes after application.

If you bought a branded version, then simply screw the bottle with the mixed composition to the “spray gun” that comes with the kit, connect the compressor and begin to apply with uniform movements at a distance of 40 - 50 cm from the surface.

Usually about 2 - 3 layers are applied, but it is worth remembering that if you apply more, the strength of RAPTOR may decrease, which will lead to undesirable consequences.

How to apply - paint?

In essence, RAPTOR is not much different from conventional paint application. However, it is not as whimsical as conventional paint and varnish coatings would say; it can actually be applied directly on the street, but it is better not to do that! Still, there is less wind, dust, rain, etc. in the boxes.

1) Before application, you need to remove all unnecessary elements, such as bumpers, wheels, mirrors, etc., that is, the car body is disassembled.

2) Next, if there are traces of rust, mold, rot on the body, then you need to remove them. Usually these parts are cleaned by removing the affected layer. Also, if there are dents and depressions, it is advisable to level them out using straightening and putty.

3) After this, we remove the gloss layer using special abrasive discs, this is done so that the RAPTOR holds up much better.

4) We treat the body with a special etching primer ACID#8 U-POL, if there are plastic parts that need to be coated, then use an adhesive primer.

5) Apply RAPTOR directly, it must be applied in several layers for best effect. Before applying the next layer, let the previous one dry.

It is IMPORTANT to remember that immediately after drying you should not conquer deep potholes, holes, or forests. It takes at least 21 days for the coating to fully set!

The surface of the paint is rough, with a distinct shagreen pattern. I would like to note that the “shagreen” can be adjusted using a spray gun; if you apply increased pressure, the roughness will be minimal.

From personal experience, maybe it will be useful to someone

Personally, I came across RAPTOR not in the automotive industry, but in everyday life - there is nothing surprising here! They covered the metal porch of the office, which began to rust mercilessly. We simply cleaned it and painted it like regular paint from a can, half with a roller and half with a brush.

And then small “problems” immediately emerged. The one who painted and applied the grooves with a brush expected that they would then “disperse” as with ordinary paint - but this is not so! Remember, if you brushed it and the grooves remained, then they will remain this way; this is an unusual coating that sets as it is. Therefore, I advise everyone to buy a “pistol”; nevertheless, the look is much better with it.

Operation in severe off-road conditions and Luzhkovo-Sobyanin anti-icing reagents leaves a noticeable imprint on the paint and varnish coating of the car. Moreover, the Moscow winter salt cocktail affects painted parts much more detrimentally. For a long time, we had to touch up chips, scratches and corrosion every spring. But on a tip from a friend, we decided to try a new remedy...

Our car wears a large number of different metal body kits, which managed to rust in just a couple of winters, despite the high-quality powder coating. As a protective agent, we decided to test a special urethane coating from the U-POL company called RAPTOR, which is positioned as an especially durable, scratch- and mechanically resistant coating for the bodies of pickup trucks and other equipment.

The coating is two-component, mixed with hardener in a standard ratio of 1:3. In Russia, RAPTOR is sold as a set of four liter bottles of product and a liter bottle of hardener. It can be applied to the surface with anything: a roller, a brush or an anti-gravel gun. It's a shame that in America a special pistol is supplied as a kit. We have to buy it separately. I purchased a gun for applying anti-gravel mixtures in one of the Rus network auto parts stores for 450 rubles.

First we decided to paint an unimportant element - the rear pipe protecting the bumper. The pipe was dismantled and cleaned with a brush and flap discs to an almost shiny condition. In this condition, it stood in the garage for a week and managed to develop rusty spots from the moisture in the air.

It applies well and has a matte white/gray color. But it has a completely disgusting pungent smell. I recommend using a respirator when working. After priming, the pipe began to look like this:

They decided to carry out painting directly with Raptor outdoors. The contents of coated bottles have the consistency and appearance of hot tar. After mixing with the hardener, it thins out sharply. It is applied easily and naturally with an anti-gravel gun, the main thing is to maintain a distance of at least 30 cm.

A good result is achieved by applying just one layer. Then, after drying for half an hour, it is enough to touch up those places where the soil shows through. Multilayer coating is not recommended, as this reduces its mechanical strength. The drying process takes about an hour. The surface texture is grainy, hard and shiny.

The composition gains strength within 23 days. A day later I could barely scratch myself with my fingernail. A week later, it was slightly scratched by the key. Of course, marks remain, but much less noticeable than with regular paint. And they are much more difficult to apply. I hope that after complete hardening the composition will protect the pipe from exposure to aggressive environments for a long time. If the test is successful, then the entire body kit of our car will be painted.
